The King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2024

Walker Lines Gymnasium Trust (WLGT) is truly humbled to have been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024. This prestigious recognition, the highest a local voluntary group can receive in the UK, is equivalent to an MBE, and we are deeply grateful for this honour.

Since our inception, we have been guided by the belief that nobody should be denied access to their chosen activities due to affordability. Our commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and respect has been the driving force behind our efforts. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us along this journey, from our dedicated volunteers to local organizations and community members who have stood by us.

The journey began when, in 2013, WLGT purchased a dilapidated historical building—one that holds significant historical value from the 2nd World War and the Cold War in Bodmin. It was a labour of love that culminated in our receiving a blue plaque in 2023, a testament to the importance of our work.

With the support of our partners and the community, we have successfully saved the Bodmin Boxing Club and the Small-bore Club, and we remain committed to opening our facility to wider organizations. Through the shed, we play a vital role in enriching the lives of participants and volunteers and enhancing the overall wellbeing of the Bodmin community and the South West.

We are incredibly honored to have our efforts recognized in the London Gazette, with the full list of 2024 awards available from the KAVS website.

This award symbolises not just our achievements, but the relentless spirit of those who have contributed their time, energy, and passion to our cause.

Trust Chairman, Balu Madhvani, and Trust Secretary, Allan Foard proudly attended the ceremony at County Hall to receive the award from the Lord Lieutenant Colonel Sir Bolitho KCVO OBE CStJ. Together, we look forward to continuing our work and making a lasting impact in the community. Thank you for believing in us and supporting our vision.
